A 2022 survey of 233 healthcare executives, including 63 CEOs, reported that 93% felt burnout was having a negative impact on their organization. Among those leaders, 74% responded that they had personally suffered from burnout within the past six months, with commenters indicating the

"emotional and physical fatigue is nonstop*."

Leaders in healthcare organizations are often promoted to their positions due to their performance as excellent clinicians. Unfortunately, once promoted, they often do not receive training or support to develop the skills required to lead and manage people. Even if they are able to achieve the desired outcomes, it often comes at a cost – to their own well-being, and that of the employees they lead – and can result in burnout and increased turnover.   Burnout has been shown to impact organizational culture, quality outcomes, and ultimately, the bottom line. HBC supports middle managers and above with group and individual coaching by teaching key skills that position them to retain top talent and pave the way to success.

As a former COO with more than 20 years of experience leading healthcare organizations, I know what it’s like to shoulder the weight of high-pressure environments, trying to foster collaboration and deliver results, often at the expense of personal well-being. I’ve also seen firsthand how team dysfunction can derail even the best strategies and intentions. 

My journey through burnout became a turning point—a wake-up call that taught me the critical importance of finding a leadership style that feels authentic. My work was not in line with my core values around facilitating a culture that empowers teams and leaders to deliver results at every level. 

 

Today, as an executive coach with a certification in psychological safety, I help leaders and teams navigate these challenges, creating spaces where trust thrives, performance soars, and results follow naturally.
